Yala National Park is the most famous wildlife safari destination in Sri Lanka, located in the southeastern part of the country. The park is well known for its rich wildlife, especially the Sri Lankan leopard, along with elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, deer, buffaloes, peacocks, and hundreds of bird species. Safaris are conducted using open 4×4 jeeps with experienced drivers, giving visitors the opportunity to explore forests, grasslands, lagoons, and coastal landscapes while observing animals in their natural habitat.
The best time to enjoy a Yala safari is during the dry season from February to July, when wildlife sightings are more frequent near water sources. Safari tours are usually available in the early morning and late afternoon, with morning safaris being popular for cooler weather and active animals. Visitors are advised to wear light-colored clothing, carry sunscreen and water, and maintain silence during the safari to avoid disturbing wildlife.
