Sinharaja Forest Reserve is Sri Lanka’s last primary tropical rainforest and a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in southwest Sri Lanka. Covering around 11,000 hectares, this rich biodiversity hotspot is home to over 60% endemic tree species and many rare animals and birds, including the Sri Lanka Blue Magpie and Red-faced Malkoha. With tall evergreen trees, misty trails, and flowing streams, it offers a truly untouched rainforest experience.
Visitors can enjoy guided trekking, bird watching, waterfall visits, eco-camping (with permission), and nature photography. As an important water catchment area, Sinharaja plays a key role in protecting Sri Lanka’s environment. The best time to visit is from January to April and August to September, making it a perfect destination for eco-tourism and jungle adventures.
